Magpas

Whittlesford now has a Magpas Group. The group consists of 5 volunteers: Andy Floate, Jane Simmonds, Nicola Bowers, Caroline Baglin and Richard Renouf.
And they are well on the way to raising the £5000 required to equip the group. The Parish Council agreed to provide a grant to assist the group, but they’ve still got some way to go.

The driving force behind setting up the Whittlesford volunteers and raising the amount of cash required to set up and become operational is Andy Floate.  If you can offer any assistance or would like to make a donation to the Whittlesford Magpas group call Andy on 07871093974.

About Magpas

Magpas is the emergency medical charity for Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & Peterborough. Formed in 1971 by a group of General Practitioiners who wanted to help at the scenes of traffic collisions in the area, the Mid Anglia General Practitioner Accident Service (MAGPAS) now operates two lifesaving schemes in the county.

The first is The Emergency Medical Team (EMT), made up of expertly trained doctors and para-medics. These dedicated volunteers deliver A & E treatment to patients at the scenes of very serious medical emergencies.

The second scheme is the Community First Responder Scheme (CFRS). This scheme involves more than 250 volunteers who are trained, equiped and co-ordinated by the charity so that they can attend serious incedents, including cardiac arrest among others, within their communities.

Another vital area where Magpas is involved is the Cambridgshire Trauma Audit Research Project (CTARP). There has been little research into trauma in the county and with the help of Magpas this will be changed.

The driving force behind setting up the Whittlesford volunteers and raising the amount of cash required to set up and become operational is Andy Floate. Well done Andy. Hopefully we will not need you but we will be damned grateful if we do.
