Music Club meets again – 1930’s and 1940’s music

Joe Palley, formerly a Letchworth Bandsman, will be introducing his choice of music which is most likely to be in the styles of the 1930’s and 40’s, to the Whittlesford Music Club at Lettuce Martin Croft. As usual the gathering will be in the Community Room starting at 2pm on Wednesday 11th March and newcomers are always welcome. Further details are available from Gerry Hulford on (01223) 830793


Garden club talk on Composting – a load of rubbish

On Wednesday 11th March at 8pm in the evening in the Memorial Hall, Rosemary Hooper will be the  guest speaker for the Gardening Club. She is an enthusiast on the subject of making compost, which is after all the basis of all good gardens and gardening. Visitors and guests are welcome and there is a £1.00 charge on the door.

What’s on in Whittlesford: 23rd-28th Feb 2009

Don’t forget Pancake Day

On 24th Feb Whittlesford Churches are organising the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races on the Lawn – starting time – 10:00am.

The races are open to adults, children and playgroup – so that means everyone can join in. Please bring your own pan & pancake.



Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place at the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 24th February.


Music appreciation – Big Band 1940’s music

Freddie Howe will present an evening of mainly Big Band 1940’s-style music at the Cambs Swing Music Appreciation Group. This will take place in the Community Centre of Lettuce Martin Croft on Wednesday evening at 7:30 on 25th Feb. As usual newcomers and visitors are welcome.


Exhibition of Roman artifacts

The Whittlesford Society – An exhibition of Roman and other finds will be held at William Westley School in the library from about 4:00pm until 7-ish on 27th February. Parents and pupils will be treated to a ‘first opportunity’ examination after which everyone is welcome to join in. The exhibition will include such ‘gems’ as 106 coins dating between 54BC & 402(AD?). This covers almost the entire Roman occupation of this ‘Faire Isle’.


PTA Quiz night

William Westley School PTA quiz is to take place in the school hall from 7:30pm on 27th February. An entry fee of £30.00 per table will enable your team of up to 6 people to take part. For more information contact the school on (01223) 833104.

Whittlesford Music Club – Basil Bonner will present his musical choices with period vocals and some old-fashioned French Jazz on Wednesday 11th February at 2pm in the Lettuce Martin Croft Community Room. Newcomers are always welcome.


Remember the Snowdrops


At the Whittlesford Gardening Club meeting on Wednesday 11th February, Alan Briggs, the club treasurer will be giving his illustrated presentation on Snowdrops. The talk starts at 8:00pm in the Memorial Hall. Visitors are welcome as always..


Whitsers Cake Sale at Masseys


The next Whitsers Pre-School Playgroup Cake Sale will take place outside Masseys of Whittlesford from 9:00am to 12:00 noon on Saturday 14th February. Don’t miss out on this treat of delicious homemade cakes and goodies. All proceed will go toward this village group.

Swing Music Appreciation and Panto Time


Cambridge Swing Music Appreciation Group

 

The Cambridge Swing Music Appreciation Group begins its sessions on:

28th January at Lettice Martin Croft in the Community Room. The get-togethers will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm. The first session will be mainly Big Band recordings.

 

Mother Goose Takes Off


Whittlesford Amateur Dramatic Society (WADS) take great pleasure in, once again, staging the annual family panto and it promises to be one of the best. Mother Goose is the name of the production and it will be held in the Memorial Hall from Wednesday 28th January through to Saturday 31st January. Tickets will be available from the Post Office in Whittlesford.
