Easter in Whittlesford

Leading up to Easter there are a number of services being held in the village.

5th April – Palm Sunday - starting at the United Reformed Church (URC) at 10.30am, with the blessing of the palms a procession will then move to the Parish Church for Holy Communion at 10.45. The Rev’d Jessica Martin will be conducting the service.

7th April – Tuesday – Rev’d Ruth Whitehead will hold a Community Worship service at the URC starting at 7.30pm.

9th April – Thursday - Lionel Ginsberg and Rev’d Ruth Whitehead will jointly conduct a Seder Service in the Parish Church Room beginning at 8.00pm.

10th April – Good Friday – at the Duxford URC starting at 10.30am, Rev’d Ruth Whitehead will conduct the service. From 10.00am untill noon children’s activities will be held in the Whittlesford Parish Church room.

12th April – Easter Sunday – Holy Communion will be held in all the churches, the starting times as follows:

Whittlesford Parish Church – 8.00am & 9.45am with children’s activities and Easter Egg hunt after the second service.

Pampisford – 9.30

Duxford URC - 11.00am

Whittlesford URC – 11.15

What’s on in Whittlesford: 2nd – 8th March 2009

Women’s World Prayer Day Service

The United Reformed Church will be holding prayers from 2pm on Friday 6th March in acknowledgment of Women’s World Prayer Day. The service has been put together by the women of Papua new Guinea. The Rev. Ruth Whitehead will be the guest speaker on the subject: ‘In Christ we are one body’. Attendance is open to all.


Football Club Ladies Night

 

Here’s an evening not to be missed… In order to help raise funds for Whittlesford United Football Club (WUFC), they are organising a Ladies Night to be held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday 7th March from 7:30 pm until very, very late.

The evening will include a disco, raffle, various stall such as Ann Summers, Body Shop, Virgin Vie and much, much more.

What’s on in Whittlesford: 23rd-28th Feb 2009

Don’t forget Pancake Day

On 24th Feb Whittlesford Churches are organising the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races on the Lawn – starting time – 10:00am.

The races are open to adults, children and playgroup – so that means everyone can join in. Please bring your own pan & pancake.



Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place at the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 24th February.


Music appreciation – Big Band 1940’s music

Freddie Howe will present an evening of mainly Big Band 1940’s-style music at the Cambs Swing Music Appreciation Group. This will take place in the Community Centre of Lettuce Martin Croft on Wednesday evening at 7:30 on 25th Feb. As usual newcomers and visitors are welcome.


Exhibition of Roman artifacts

The Whittlesford Society – An exhibition of Roman and other finds will be held at William Westley School in the library from about 4:00pm until 7-ish on 27th February. Parents and pupils will be treated to a ‘first opportunity’ examination after which everyone is welcome to join in. The exhibition will include such ‘gems’ as 106 coins dating between 54BC & 402(AD?). This covers almost the entire Roman occupation of this ‘Faire Isle’.


PTA Quiz night

William Westley School PTA quiz is to take place in the school hall from 7:30pm on 27th February. An entry fee of £30.00 per table will enable your team of up to 6 people to take part. For more information contact the school on (01223) 833104.

Christmas starts with St Andrew’s Fair and a crib festival


Fair of the Year – St Andrew’s

Don’t forget tomorrow’s St Andrew’s Fair in the Memorial Hall – that’s November 29th. The usual Grand Raffle, lunches, stalls and refreshments will be there so you won’t be disappointed. This is a great opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping and stop for a chat and a cup of tea.

Proceeds go to maintaining the fabric of the church – Admission prices: Adults 50p. Children free.

St Andrew’s Fair runs from 11am until 3pm. Hope to see you there.


Nativity Festival

The URC is holding a Festival of Nativity Sets on Sunday 30th November from noon until 4pm at the Whittlesford URC. The display will show how people across the world portray the birth of Jesus.

Light lunches will be served from noon until 1.30pm, and teas & biscuits will be available all afternoon.  Admission: Free.
